Why I chose college over A Levels

I’m a BTEC Performing Arts student and I absolutely love it. I want to be an actress and the College course covers a huge range of disciplines, from television and film to theatre, singing and dancing.  There’s also a real diverse mix of people with different talents, interests, ambitions and performance ideas.

City College Plymouth has a great performance space and prop, costume and lighting facilities.  The lecturers are fantastic and have worked in the industry – some have toured with theatre groups, while others have written and directed their own shows.

The course is so good; you learn so much from the lecturers because they have a good understanding of what the business is really like. The knowledge and experience that they share with you is so useful and really allows you to blossom and improve.

I chose to study at City College because I wanted to just focus on one subject instead of studying many others like you have to do at A Level. College is perfect as it allows me to do this and I can really focus on excelling in what I want to do.

My family is proud of me, which makes me take pride in myself. Knowing they are proud of me makes me realise I am doing well and it makes me feel really confident.

My decision has worked out exactly as I’d hoped and I feel really happy that I have been able to take this direction in my studies.

College life is pretty cool; it’s great to be surrounded by a diverse group of people that really reflects what life after College will be like. You encounter so many different people from different walks of life, and all with various ideas and opinions. It really opens your mind.

My favourite part of College life is my amazing friends and how I have the chance to try new things and have learnt to tackle challenges in new ways. I really feel like I have grown and would recommend studying here to anyone.

My mum says that she’s so proud of me, they’re so happy for me. They know I’m doing well and she says my family back home is impressed with all my achievements.
